We got up early to get our road trip started.
We drove
all the way to Big Sur the first day. We mostly took highway 1 the whole way, and
the drive was breathtaking. We stopped a couple of times to take
pictures.
The only problem we encountered is we didn't realize that we
would be on such a long stretch without a gas station. We came pretty close to
running out. I was stressing out as I watched our range get lower and
lower. Luckily, we came upon a tiny gas station in the mountains that
gouged us at $6.80 a gallon. I've never been happier to pay it though. I really
thought we were going to run out of gas and be stuck on PCH in the middle
of no where. After we got gas we stopped at McWay falls. It was
beautiful.
We got to our campsite late, and cooked up some hot dogs over
the fire for dinner.
Then the boys spent some time riding their skateboards and scooters around the campground.
We ended the night playing some cards. Before we left the
campground the next day we went for a hike along the stream in the campground.
The boys were
in heaven.
We hit the road again and the drive up the
coast was just as stunning. We stopped at the beach not far from our campground
and spent some time there.
The waves were hitting pretty hard so we stayed away
from the water, but the boys found plenty adventure on the shore. They were
climbing and jumping off of rocks and running down dirt hills.
We found
some of the biggest seaweed ever that the boys just had to play with.
Back in the car and we made it to our next campsite at Salt Point State Park.
We got there pretty late. All the boys but Porter were tired, so we got them in
bed right away and we hung out with Porter by the campfire and made s'mores
with him. It was nice to hang out with Porter. I think he felt special to have
some time alone with us.
