Finally!!!

After a year of on-again, off-again potty training, I can finally say that we are done!! Ethan is very proud of himself, and will show just about anyone his "big boy" underwear. When he first started wearing them he would only wear them backwards, he didn't like the idea of a hole in his underwear. Once I explained that they weren't defective and showed him why it was there, it was smooth sailing. We told Ethan that when he was done having "accidents" he could get a new bike with training wheels. Well, after spending some time with his cousins, he decided that he wanted a scooter instead, or as he calls it, a "roller scooter". Well, of course it had to be a Spiderman one!! Ethan wouldn't smile for a picture, so I got this tough guy look from him...how tough can you be when you ride a "roller scooter"?!

I love this place...

I just had to post this. We get the greatest sunsets here. I took this from our house last week. The picture doesn't even do it justice!

Beach Camping

Two weeks ago we went camping down at San Onofre with our friends Rebecca and Todd and their kids. I have done a lot of camping, but never at the beach. It was so fun to combine two fun activities. The kids had a blast...what kid wouldn't love spending the day at the beach to top it off with sleeping in a tent? Our favorite time was probably when we got to put the kids to bed and hang out with our friends playing some cards. Of course we had to play according to Todd's rules, which changed depending on what what gave him the best advantage!:) The beach was beautiful. I think most of the people at the campground were surfers so they were all out in the water while we had the beach almost to ourselves. It was nice to take some beach pics without a million people in the background! The beach was covered with rocks, which hurts a lot when the waves crash down on your feet, but they were so pretty!I've never been impressed with rocks before, but I was amazed at the variety of colors, I even found some purple ones! Well, of course I had to bring some home, but I got a bit carried away and ended up carrying way to many up the steep climb back to the campground...great workout though! Now I just have to figure out how to make them shine like when they were wet. They are not as pretty now that they have dried...any suggestions?

My little Hercules!
Ethan found this stick and spent a lot of the day drawing in the sand. I love it when they are entertained so easily!
Mermaid Porter... Daddy's idea of a good time!
Rebecca brought glow sticks for the kids, great idea!
Thanks so much for inviting us, we had so much fun!

Art for sale!

My little Porter has become quite an artist. This has not happened overnight, he's had a lot of practice. I have found his creations all over the house...on the table, on the windows, on the floor, and in the grout (the worst to clean!). He has experimented with many mediums too; crayons, pencil, ballpoint pen, and the ever impressive permanent marker. But recently he has uped his game. So much that the permanent marker doesn't seem so bad anymore. What is it you might ask, well, only a picture of his recent work can explain...

Yep, that's POOP on the wall! Like I said in the previous post, Porter likes to take his clothes off lately, including his diaper. This has happened when he's locked in his room for nap time. (Don't judge me, it's the only way he'll go to sleep!) We have since learned to put him in tighter clothes at bedtime that will make it a littler harder for him. So a big shout out to my sister-in-law Shawna who has gone through this with several of her kids too. One more reason that you're supermom to me! I don't know how you do it! So, if anyone is looking for a one of a kind piece of art let me know and I'll send the little guy over!

Our Summer So Far

I thought I should just recap the summer activities so far. I apologize in advance if it ends up long! :)

Porter's Birthday
Porter's 2nd birthday was in July. We went to my parents house and spent the day playing in the pool, eating good food, (thanks Mom!), playing cards, and hanging out with the fam.

This is classic Porter...always into trouble. We went to bring him inside for birthday cake and presents and we found him like this. He had found the water faucet outside and was having a blast ...

Hence the nakedness in the following photo!

Wild week!

The following week my sister and her family came down for some fun. We took the kids to the orange park for some frisbee and fun. All Porter wanted to do was walk on the wall, then Ethan and my neice Hannah had to join in.

Rob and Porter showing their muscles

We went bowling too and had so much fun. Great form right!?

Porter would just drop the ball, and two hours later it would finally find a couple of pins. (thank goodness for bumper lanes!)

Ethan found the fan and was cooling down.

There's something extremely cute about little boys in bowling shoes!

Then we finally made it to the beach!

Rob had the great idea to give Porter some watermelon...so gross! I think he ate more sand than watermelon. He also decided he didn't want to wear his swimsuit anymore. Porter likes to take his clothes off...I have a great story for another post later.

Thank you Heywoods for all the fun!

Rob's Birthday

Rob had his 32nd birthday on the 6th. He requested that I make my Grandma's famous "molten lava cakes" , or at least they are famous to him. She made them for us years ago and he hasn't stopped talking about it. The inside stays like a sauce, so when you cut it open it pours out. I didn't think about that when I put the candles in . The wax melted right off the bottom into the cake...OOPS! He still liked them though. Thank goodness he's not picky like me! Love ya babe!

Here we go...

I've always been the kind of person to wait too long before following the trends. Usually by the time I decide it's safe to do it, the trend is on it's way out. Well after I realized that everyone and their mom (literally) has a blog, I figure it's about time I do it too. So, hopefully this will be a good way to keep everyone updated on our crazy life.
