Last month Rob got an email advertising a one day offer for airfare to Washington D.C. for super cheap through mid June. I was worried about planning a trip so fast, but we both decided that we may never see airfare that cheap again, so we booked it. It was a crazy month planning out our trip. There is so much to see on the east coast and we didn't want to miss anything. We flew out of Las Vegas at midnight and landed in Dulles at 8am. We picked up our rental car, and hit the ground running. We were all tired, but knew if we stopped to sleep that we would miss so much. Our first stop was a Masonic Temple. We got a tour and learned so much. Rob's grandfather was a high ranked mason, so it was neat to show the boys.
We then went over to the National Mall.
The boys were impressed with the Washington Monument, and how tall it was.
Bryson had a bit of a meltdown at this point, and did not want to take anymore pictures. But considering the little sleep he was running on, one tantrum is not so bad. The rest of us were able to laugh it off.
Next we saw the WWII memorial.
They had a star that represented every 100 lives lost. It really put things in perspective.
It was a really hot day and the humidity was killing us. As we walked by the reflecting pool we stopped and got some popsicles. Unfortunately, they melted so fast from the heat that the boys arms and face were stained from them dripping all over.
It looked like a zombie apocalypse.
It was really cool to be in D.C. just after Memorial Day. All the war memorials still had mementos that people had placed. The Vietnam Wall had flags placed all along it.
We made it to the Lincoln Memorial, and it was awesome.
My Lincoln was excited to finally meet his namesake.
After Mr. Lincoln, we walked over to the Korean War Memorial.
Rob's grandfather served in the Korean War and he found a soldier representing his duties in the war.
The MLK memorial was much bigger than we thought.
There were famous quotes of his all around it. This was one of my favorites.
The boys were getting pretty tired and our parking time was up, so Ethan and Rob went over to the Jefferson Monument on their own, while I drove around until they were done.
After we picked up the boys we headed to our hotel in Alexandria. I loved this area. The old colonial homes were so cute, and everything was so green! We grabbed some dinner, watched a movie in our room and called it a night.
